Where You Belong, A Journey declassified

A Lesson in resilience in the midst of adversity

"Where I Belong, a Journey Declassified", is a RAW unfiltered biography of one man’s journey toward wellness and finding his place to belong. The first book in the Belonging Series. Published in 2018; Revised and updated in 2025, set to be rereleased on January 19th, 2026.


AUTHOR’S NOTE: THE BELONGING SERIES

When I first published Where I Belong in 2018, I wrote it as a soldier of circumstance. It was a declassified dossier of my life—a narrative of high-stakes operations, trauma, and the raw will required to survive in the field. It was the story of what happened, and how I overcame. But in the years since, as I transitioned from intelligence professional to therapist, I realized that surviving the mission is not the same as living life.

In the intelligence community, we are trained to focus on the Destination: the target, the objective, the extraction point. We are trained to treat life as a series of fixed points. But when the dust settles and the operation ends, that rigid mindset doesn't heal you. It traps you.


That realization is why I am re-issuing this special edition book with revisions, updates and bonus chapter as the foundation of the Belonging Series.

This series is designed as an evolution—a three-part progression from the chaos of the field to the clarity of the mind:

  1. INSPIRE (Where I Belong): The book you are holding now. This is the journey declassified. It is the story of resilience in the face of overwhelming odds.
  2. IMPROVE (Where You Belong): Coming March 2026. This is where we shift from the "Destination" mindset of the operative to the "Process" mindset of the sailor. Using case studies from my      therapy practice and the metaphor of the sailboat, we explore how to navigate life’s storms rather than just fighting them.
  3. IMPLEMENT (Where We Belong): Arriving Winter 2026. This is the strategy for autonomy. We take the lessons of the field and the healing of the process to declassify the mind, finding true clarity in a complex world.

As you read these pages, you will see the trauma and the triumphs of my past. But know that the story doesn't end on the final page. The story of survival ends here; the story of living begins in the next book.

Where We Belong, The Secret to declassifying the mind

RELEASE DATE: July 2026

 Dr. Will Cunningham's latest book, "Where We Belong, The Secret To Declassifying The Mind", is centered on the Core Concept of **Tactical Self-Mastery**, frames the process of anti-self-sabotaging as a four-stage intelligence operation. This approach fuses clinical expertise with the practical, disciplined framework of an intelligence operative, creating a rigorous protocol for mental resilience, which is outlined in this third book in the Belonging Trilogy Series.

The four distinct stages outlined for the book are:
Stage 1: Reconnaissance (Self-Awareness)
This initial stage focuses on applying the principles of surveillance and data collection to one's internal world. The goal is to teach readers how to apply these techniques to their own **thoughts, emotions, and triggers which is "declassify their subconscious".
Stage 2: Threat Assessment (Your thoughts about Trauma & Triggers)
Following self-awareness, this stage utilizes the logic of a threat analyst to categorize risks.  Readers learn to “identify high-risk emotional situations”. This involves identifying the "toxic agents" which may include people, patterns, or thoughts—that are responsible for destabilizing their psychological state.
Stage 3: Counterintelligence (Motivation toward Boundaries & Defenses)
This stage shifts from analysis to active defense, establishing strong psychological boundaries. The core activity is establishing “psychological safe zones".  Readers are taught practical, disciplined techniques—likened to a special operative's protocols—to defend their mental health against chaotic outside influence.
Stage 4: Mission Debrief (Actions toward - Integration & Growth)
The final stage applies a rigid, operational structure to past events to ensure future growth. This involves applying the rigid structure of a **post-mission review** to common psychological burdens like trauma, regret, and failures. The essential goal is to **extract lessons** from past experiences and ensure that negative behaviors are not repeated.
